The CDC utilizes Direct/Expedited Hire Authorities to fill vacancies in a variety of occupations. This vacancy is a REPOSITORY of applications. Duties and responsibilities vary and may increase according to the grade level of the position. Applications may be periodically referred to hiring managers both during the open period and after the closing date. Because of the large number of applications anticipated, applicants' status will not be updated.

This public notice will be used to fill the positions listed below at multiple grade levels and locations.

  • Mathematical Statistician: Grades GS-11 through GS-15

Applicant Expiration: Applications will expire 4 months after submission/resubmission. To remain eligible for consideration, reapplying is required.

  • Administering and performing professional work and providing professional consultation in the application of statistical theories, techniques, and methods of gathering and/or interpreting quantified information on various scientific and public health issues and programs.

  • Designing, developing and applying mathematical techniques to research related to statistical methodology used in public health research and evaluates the results.

  • Conducting evaluations of data collection, reduction, processing, and analysis methodologies.

  • Writing and/or presenting comprehensive technical statistical reports.

Basic Qualifications:
  1. Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience: at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

    NOTE: Total course work must have included differential & integral calculus &, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • GS-11:
    • At least 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR
    • At least 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience serving as a technical advisor on various statistical analyses and methods; and developing and/or presenting professional papers or reports on statistical studies or surveys OR
    • A combination of education & experience
  • GS-12:
    • At least 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience applying health-related statistical methods or conducting health-related statistical analyses; and providing technical expertise to support statistical analyses
  • GS-13:
    • At least 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience analyzing and reporting statistical data and collaborating or consulting on the application of statistical techniques or methods relevant to public health; and planning and executing a variety of projects and developing recommendations
  • GS-14:
    • At least 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience developing and/or presenting professional papers or reports on statistical studies or surveys; and utilizing statistical methodologies, procedures, or programs for statistical analyses and methods
  • GS-15:
    • At least 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience serving as a consultant and senior advisor in applying advanced statistical techniques to experimental design, data analysis, sampling, forecasting, quality control, and operations research; utilizing innovative collection methodology; and/or establishing innovative writing and auditing procedures for automated or computer-assisted statistical survey operations
