Salary Range:           Starting salary of $73,722, commensurate with experience


Basic Function

Join the Office of Attorney General’s (OAG) Information Technology Section for a challenging and rewarding experience.  This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, security, administration, account management and resolution of software and hardware issues with the main focus being related to the installation and maintenance of hardware in the OAG data center.   The position will work on occasion with end users by trouble shooting hardware and/or installing or troubleshooting software.  The day to day demands of this position include working both individually and as part of a team.  The Information Technology Generalist Administrator will work closely with other members of the IT Infrastructure and Operations Unit, as well as members of the Applications Development Unit, the Litigation Support Section and end users.  This position reports to the Manager of IT Infrastructure and Operations.


The Information Technology Generalist Administrator position is primarily an 8:30-5:00 job, but it does require work outside of the standard hours for emergency purposes or for certain types of upgrades to avoid large outages during the standard work day.  This position is primarily based out of the Strawberry Square location in Harrisburg but may require travel to any of the more than 13 OAG related locations throughout the Commonwealth.  Occasional overnight stays will be required for more remote locations or bigger projects.

  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots data center equipment such as the Citrix NetScalers; Cisco based firewalls, switches, and routers; Dell blade chassis; and Dell standalone servers
  • Utilizes embedded tools to monitor and manage the OAG servers and line of business applications
  • Maintains and patches servers in the OAG network
  • Utilizes Windows Server Updates Services (WSUS) for updating all computers and servers
  • Works with end users to troubleshoot hardware issues and install or troubleshoot software
  • Leads, coordinates, and participates in key hardware upgrades and process improvements; this often will involve working with outside engineers

  • Associate’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field and three years of relevant experience in an IT Infrastructure related field OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field and one year of relevant experience in an IT Infrastructure related field OR
  • Five years of relevant experience in an IT Infrastructure related field


  • Broad level of understanding of the kinds of equipment utilized in the OAG data center such as: 
    • Cisco based firewalls, switches, and routers
    • Dell blade chassis and Dell standalone servers
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate with employees throughout all levels of the organization
  • Available for travel to other regional offices across the Commonwealth


  • Experience with Citrix NetScalers, Citrix Remote Desktop, IVRs and behavioral anti-virus systems
  • Knowledge of HVAC control systems, APC power conditioners and battery backups 
  • Experience working with attorneys, law enforcement, government entities, or the nonprofit sector
