As a Barber you will provide classroom and on-the job training to inmates at the SCI Mercer Barber School. You will plan, develop, and administer the barber training program, document inmate training progress, and ensure compliance with all policies pertaining to inmate grooming including access to barber services. This role requires the ability to form effective working relationships and a genuine desire to help inmates learn the standard practices, methods, and techniques of the barber trade. In addition, you will schedule inmate students to take the Barber License test, request all materials and supplies used during classroom instruction, and maintain the barber school in accordance with all laws, regulations, and guidelines.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $50,846 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of an active Barber Teacher License issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Barber Examiners.


Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
