As a Cook 1, you will support the kitchen operations at a long term care facility by carrying out a variety of cooking and food preparation tasks. You will help ensure that residents receive safe, nutritious, and appealing meals. You will perform the following key duties:

  • Operate Equipment: Use ovens, fryers, mixers, kettles, skillets, grills, and processors while reporting equipment issues to supervisors
  • Prepare Foods: Cook meats, vegetables, casseroles, soups, sauces, and desserts for regular and therapeutic diets while checking quality throughout the process
  • Maintain Work Areas: Clean and sanitize utensils, equipment, floors, and preparation surfaces and ensure all areas remain orderly
  • Manage Ingredients: Weigh, measure, package, and label ingredients and assist with recipes, inventory, and supply requisitions
  • Lead Staff: Assign, coordinate, take part in, and review routine food production tasks performed by Food Service Workers
  • Complete Preparation Tasks: Handle advance preparation for the next day and ensure proper use of leftover food items

Work Schedule and Additional Information: 

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 2nd shift (11:30 AM to 8:00 PM), with a 30-minute lunch. You will work rotating days, weekends, and holidays.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Desirable Preparation for Work:

  • Experience in cooking or quantity food preparation; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training.


Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements: 
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
