SENIOR TOOL AND DIE TECHNICIAN
DAY SHIFT - 6am to 2:30pm
Monday - Friday
$38.00 -$45.00 Per Hour
$2,500 Sign-on Bonus
General Purpose:
MI Windows and Doors is seeking a motivated Tool and Die Specialist to assist in the commissioning, planned maintenance, and repairs of its internal cutting / stamping tools and auxiliary equipment in our high-volume facility. This individual will be working with cross-functional teams and bridging gaps between production and maintenance operations. Excellent tool and die skills are mandatory for the team member to achieve success. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of success in similar environments within the industry.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
· Help lead the maintenance, repairs, and modifications of fabrication dies of various sizes for vinyl and aluminum extrusions.
· Identify and schedule repairs for dies needed without the interruption of production.
· Make in-press repairs of tooling.
· Must be able to interpret verbal or written instructions and work independently to complete jobs from set up to final inspection.
· Ensure a safe work environment, equipment maintenance and repair, housekeeping duties, organization of shop materials and supplies.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
General Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· 10 years’ experience in building and repairs of all types, sizes, and shapes of dies, jigs, fixtures, and tools.
· Assemble and try out complex tools and dies on manufacturing equipment.
· Set up, runs off, and tests dies to produce a product to spec, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting them.
· May assist in the training and mentoring of apprentices.
· Strong mechanical ability and problem-solving skills sufficient to perform PM and most repairs without support.
· Good organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment and meet operational deadlines.
· Must be self-motivated, safety and quality conscious, and work efficiently with minimal supervision.
· Heavy lifting required (50 plus lbs.).
· Good communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
· Ability to use CMMS to log work and create and close work orders.
· Experience in progressive dies, blanking dies, pierce dies, welding, drilling, and assembly fixtures.
· Well versed with the fundamentals of hydraulic, pneumatic, and punch press dies.
· Reading blueprints to produce new die components and replacement parts.
· Operate typical machine shop equipment including mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, and saws.
· Experience with all different types of tool steel and the heat-treating process of each one including A2, D2, S7, and O1.
· Must have the ability to produce double compound angled parts using milling machine and sin bar.
· Know trigonometric functions and formulas as in Sine, Cosine, and Tangent functions to produce compound angles.
· Must supply own hand tools including calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, etc…
· Valid driver’s license
