Job Summary:
We're seeking a technically proficient Operations Engineer to drive data-driven improvements across our sort center network. This role sits at the intersection of operations, engineering, and analytics, utilizing Python, SQL, and visualization tools to transform complex operational data into actionable insights.

The ideal candidate will partner with multiple stakeholders to validate designs, optimize processes, and deliver evidence-based solutions that enhance our operational efficiency. This position plays a crucial role in connecting day-to-day operations with long-term strategic planning through data-driven decision making.



Key job responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:

Operational Analytics & Process Improvement:
- Lead data analysis initiatives using Python and SQL to identify operational trends and improvement opportunities
- Develop and maintain dashboards and visualizations in QuickSight to monitor key performance metrics
- Create evidence-based models to optimize sort center operations and material flow
- Transform complex operational data into clear, actionable narratives for stakeholders

Cross-functional Partnership:
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between Operations, Supply Chain, and Design Engineering teams
- Partner with Sales and Operations Planning to align operational capabilities with strategic objectives
- Collaborate with material flow teams to optimize sort center throughput and efficiency
- Support long-term planners with data-driven insights for capacity planning

Design Validation & Implementation:
- Review and validate sort center designs from an operational perspective
- Ensure operational requirements are properly translated into design specifications
- Analyze historical data to inform future design decisions
- Provide quantitative feedback on design performance and opportunities for improvement

Program Monitoring & Reporting:
- Develop and maintain programmatic monitoring systems for sort center performance
- Create automated reporting solutions using Python and SQL
- Build interactive dashboards to track key metrics and project progress
- Generate regular performance reports with clear insights and recommendations

Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency gains
- Lead data-driven experiments to test and validate improvement hypotheses
- Document and share best practices across the network
- Maintain and update operational standards based on analytical findings


A day in the life
As an Operations Analytics Engineer, your day centers around analyzing weekly trends and solving operational challenges. You start by reviewing the latest weekly performance reports, identifying any significant shifts in sort center efficiency or throughput.

Throughout the day, you'll dive into data using Python and SQL to investigate recurring issues or bottlenecks identified by operations teams. You'll create visualizations in QuickSight to clearly communicate your findings to stakeholders.

A significant portion of your time is spent collaborating with Sales and Operations Planning teams, providing data-driven insights to support capacity planning and forecasting. You'll also work closely with long-term planning groups, using your analytical skills to inform strategic decisions about network growth and optimization.

When operational problems arise, you'll be called upon to conduct rapid analysis, drawing from historical data to propose evidence-based solutions. Your day often includes cross-functional meetings where you present your latest analyses and recommendations, translating complex data into actionable insights for leadership.

This role requires you to balance strategic analytical projects with responsive problem-solving, always with an eye towards improving sort center operations through data-driven decision making.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other STEM field
- 8+years of experience as a Project Engineer, Process Engineer, Project Manager, Manufacturing Engineer, or related occupation
- Experience managing the lifecycle of cross-functional projects, implementing automated equipment and/or integrated systems
- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, REVIT, BIM 360, etc.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Master's degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or equivalent STEM field
- Experience in Lean Management, Six Sigma and other operations engineer tools

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $107,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $177,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
