- Last Mile Engineering is searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented Mechanical Engineer / Industrial Designer to lead automation and material handling equipment (MHE) initiatives of developing next generation, world-class Last Mile transportation building designs. We’re looking to add high-impact engineers to our team. In this role, you will collaborate with internal and external teams to design high-quality, cost-effective solutions for our delivery stations. Your projects will be a variety of delivery station concepts and template-based design solutions that will enhance the effectiveness of Amazon's last mile network. You will work with a team of highly skilled and highly engaged engineers in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment.
Ability to travel 40% to interact with internal and external business, operational and technical leaders.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate design efforts to develop optimal automation/MHE equipment design solutions for the last mile network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations.
- Collaboration with internal teams and external vendors and stakeholders to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in very short periods of time.
- Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors.
- Provide technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects, retrofits and building designs
- Effective communication skills, ability to execute the vision, detailed roadmap, and specific technical solutions to make a compelling business case with senior executives.
- Ability to travel up to 40% to interact with internal and external business and technical leaders.
About the team
The AMZL Central Engineering organization, designs, pilots and deploys Automation technologies within AMZL network. The team owns the full life-cycle of the automation tech from concept to pilot to full scale deployment and continuous improvement post deployment.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics (or equivalent related experience)
- 7+ years Experience in Mechanical Engineering or Facility design with automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.
- 5+ years Experience with process design based on Lean Principles.
- 5+ years Experience in Capital project management
- 5+ years Experience with concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making.
- 5+ years Experience with ownership/management of engineering design projects
- 5+ years Experience using business/technical software like MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics (or equivalent related experience)
Experience in Operations experience
Experience in Logistics or Production business
Experience in innovation/Research & Development
Experience in design of warehouses and integration of Automated Material Handing Equipment (MHE)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $118,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
