DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this managerial role, you will perform a full range of supervisor duties over a staff of Senior Revenue Tax Auditors, Revenue Tax Auditors, Revenue Tax Auditor Trainees, and Commonwealth Public Service Interns that are responsible for conducting tax audits for the department. Work includes planning, organizing, and assigning work to audit staff engaged in the performance of audits in the sales and use tax audit program. In this position, you will be required to maintain a thorough working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, rulings, departmental policies, and procedures in order to provide accurate advice and guidance to auditors and taxpayers. You will have the opportunity to provide on-the-job instructions to improve upon any auditors’ weakness and/or to cross-train auditors into other tax programs as well as serve as an instructor in formal training seminars.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Altoona.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Senior Revenue Tax Auditor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of professional tax accounting or tax auditing experience and a bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 24 college level credits in accounting.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
