As an Accountant, you will be responsible for performing complex accounting and financial management functions.

This position has job functions that must be executed within a specific geographic location. The official duty station is a federal facility, leased space, or an alternative worksite (typically the employee’s home). Positions include routine telework and remote work arrangements that are geographically specific to: Denver, CO; Ft. Worth, TX; Kansas City, MO; Philadelphia, PA; and Washington, DC. The duty station will be determined upon selection and will be located within the geographic area described.
As an Accountant, you will perform the following duties:
- Prepare agency financial statements following guidance in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circular A-136, OMB Circular A-11 and other agency policies and procedures. Create various reports required by senior management, financial managers or program officials and reports. Perform analysis, review and reconciliation of financial statements, reports or transactions.
- Create Standard General Ledger (SGL), posting models for the proper recording of accounting transactions in the accounting system. Perform analysis of SGL accounts for proper accounting treatment, accuracy and correction of existing posting models. Coordinate the maintenance of a system of computer controlled general ledger and sub-accounts and related budgetary accounts.
- Support internal and external audits providing data/information and technical expertise on accounting, financial management and related policies, procedures and reports. Review and comments on audit reports. Create action plans and ensures completion of action items by established due dates.
- Maintain effective relationships with management officials in the Office of Management and Budget, General Accounting Office, Department of Treasury and in GSA's services and staff offices in order to develop economical and useful accounting and financial reporting system.
- Prepare replies to correspondence from members of Congress, State, local agencies and interested segments of private industry requesting analysis, groupings, allocations, and interpretations of data included in published reports.

The GS-13 salary range starts at $103,409 per year. Locality will be determined based on duty location.
If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.
Basic Requirements: You must have either A or B, or C:
- Degree in accounting
- Degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law
- A combination of college level education and experience.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing analyses of a high volume automated accounting system which included complex processing routines; analyzing and evaluating complex accounting problems to develop solutions; and communicating accounting solutions to management peers, customers and/or subordinates.
