To perform all types of code and non-code welding (manually or robotically), brazing and cutting for all apparatus produced in the Weld Shop such as motors, turbines, compressors, strainers, heat transfer units, related equipment, impellers, etc. Layout component parts for robot programming. Program and control the robot system. Conduct demonstrations. Conduct robot training and robot development programs.



Tools and Equipment:


Various type of gas and electric welding and cutting equipment such as automatic, semi-automatic and manually operated welding machines, gas heating and welding torches, tank rolls, welding fixtures and jigs, monorail and jib hoists, electric preheating ovens, chipping hammers, grinders, cleaning tools, safety equipment, small hand tools, ultra-violet light fillet gages, portable mag equipment, robot welding system(s), computer(s), heat monitoring (sensor) devices (manual and/or automatic), data tapes and/or floppy disks, tacking and layout fixtures. Fork lift truck and other material handling equipment.


Materials :


Used: Welding rods, oxygen, acetylene and inert gages, arc carbons, etc.

Produced: Welded, brazed or flame-cut material or parts for motors, turbine, compressors, strainers, heat transfer units and related equipment.


  1. Must be a code certified welder.
  2. Receives instructions from supervision.
  3. Works from assembly drawings and/or work order book and/or robot system/computer instructions provided.
  4. Controls the robot system in all aspects including creation of programs, modifications of programs, program optimizations, tooling selection, record keeping, observation and enforcement of all safety rules, system training, system demonstration, prototype project development, development projects and basic troubleshooting of system.
  5. Trains other personnel as directed.
  6. Obtains correct size and type of electrode or wire and flux for electric welding and rod or wire, flux, torch tips and gas for gas welding, data tapes, floppy disks and robot tooling.
  7. Positions work in “V” block, welding positioner, surface table, tank roller or on floor or in robot fixturing as required.
  8. Signals craneman and performs crane hooking and unhooking as required. Welds all commercial type alloy steel, non-ferrous metals such as copper, brass, aluminum of various thickness and shapes.
  9. Maintains good housekeeping by keeping tools, material and equipment in the proper place and work organized.
  10. Perform routine preventive maintenance on machines
  11. Lubricates machine as required.
  12. Sets up automatic or semi-automatic welding machines by inserting proper electrode or wire, setting correct, current etc. as required.
  13. Sets correct speeds for tank rolls or positioner in conjunction with automatic or semi-automatic welding machines.
  14. Clean parts or joints to be welded by wire brushing, grinding, etc.
  15. Cleans finished welded material as required.
  16. Uses cutting torch to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to any size or shape.
  17. Performs brazing as required.
  18. Heats and straightens material as necessary.
  19. Operates an electric pre-heating oven to pre-heat material prior to welding as required.
  20. Climbs and works from ladders and scaffolds.
  21. Operates jib or monorail hoist to position material as required.
  22. Reports defective material and equipment to supervision.
  23. Maintains good housekeeping by keeping tools, material and equipment in proper place.
  24. Reports production count, time and identifying data by use of data collection devices (manual, automatic or computer)
  25. Observes all safety rules
  26. Operates portable mag equipment to check for weld defects when welding or repairing.
  27. Maintain welding tools and equipment including preventative maintenance.
  28. Must be available for continuing training
  29. Operates for lift truck and other material handling equipment.

  • Must be able and willing to work 1st (7am-3pm), 2nd (3pm-11pm) and 3rd(11pm-7am) shifts. Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to shift realignment. 
  • Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends and holidays.
  • 3 years experience with SMAW or GTAW preferred.
