OverviewThe RF Systems Design Engineer role will apply broad technical knowledge and skills in various scientific/technical disciplines to the design, analysis, planning, and development of major subsystems and small-scale systems. Systems are primarily in the RF Electronic Warfare (EW) business area that includes Radar Warning (RW), Situational Awareness, Interferometry/Direction Finding (DF), Electronic Attack (EA), as well as Self-Protect RF Counter Measures (RFCM) including on-/off-board systems.
The successful candidate must have a propensity to create designs, perform simulations and/or generate circuit analysis for system-level requirements as well as RF components based on performance, schedule, cost, reliability, and manufacturability goals. This could include any combination of technical research, test, documentation, and presentation. This role works closely with other engineering disciplines and provides technical insight to ensure that designs achieve "best value" goals of meeting performance and life cycle requirements within allocated budget and schedule constraints.
ResponsibilitiesYOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As part of our dynamic engineering development team, you will apply broad technical knowledge and skills in various scientific/technical disciplines for the design, analysis, planning, and development of major subsystems and small-scale systems. Individuals are expected to draw upon their ingenuity and RF engineering principles to help deliver leading-edge defense systems for the air, on land, and at sea. The Engineer must have a propensity to create system architectures or top-level designs, and perform simulations/circuit analysis for system-level requirements. Must be capable of performing trade based studies on performance, schedule, cost, reliability, and manufacturability goals. This could include any combination of technical research, test, documentation, and presentation. The Systems Engineer works closely with other engineering disciplines and provides technical insight and leadership to ensure that designs achieve "best value" goals of meeting performance and life cycle requirements within allocated budget and schedule constraints. This will involve:
• Propose technical (re-)solutions and their impact on cost, schedule and risk
- Define top-level system architectures using functional elements of a system; RF/antenna, digital, I/O, SW, power, mechanical
- Requirements development/management including derivation/decomposition
- Generate block/flow diagrams, interconnection drawings (ICDs), wire lists
- Conduct trade analysis, architectural studies, and performance modeling
- Generate models or simulations aiding in predicted performance for compliance
- Recommend, plan, lead, review, and identify risks for R&D efforts
- Integrate and test modules or subsystems in various laboratory or field environments
- Generate technical content for submission and/or briefing to internal/external customers
- Occasional domestic travel to support government/industry sponsored activities; industry-days, CONOP exercises, technical interchanges
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, RF systems, Physics or equivalent experience
- Eight (8)+ years of technical work experience with RF component exposure
- Familiarity with requirements management/development (tools such as; DOORS, Jama)
- Five (5)+ years of experience working with RF/microwave concepts & terminology; dB, dBm, EIRP, G/T, Noise Figure, P1dB, VSWR
- Five (5)+ years of laboratory experience with test equipment (e.g. network analyzer, signal generator, oscilloscope, etc.)
- Five (5)+ years of experience with frequencies from microwave to millimeter wave (2 to 40 GHz)
- This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a “US Person” under US export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems, or Physics
- Ten (10)+ plus years of RF technical work, primarily in the EW, Defense, or Aerospace industry
- Familiarity with model-based systems engineering methodology (e.g. CATIA)
- Good knowledge of circuit design fundamentals, electronic components, or schematic capture (e.g. Altium)
- Designed to and/or specified requirements for EW, radar, or communication systems
- Knowledge of RF/microwave principles and subsystem analysis methodologies working with receivers, transmitters, or antennas
- Worked with frequencies from microwave to millimeter wave (10 to 74 GHz)
- Integration, validation & verification experience for system compliance determination
- Experience programming with MATLAB or other scripting language (e.g. Python), simulation tools (e.g. AWR, ADS, HFSS, or CST)
- Strong verbal communication skills with ability to present data and explain results to key stakeholders
- Active DOD Secret Clearance
We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas.
Salary Range: RF Systems Design Engineer IV: $131,320.98 - $203,254.76 annually. Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
