What you will do

Position Title: Quality Manager

The mission of the Quality Manager is to ensure that quality processes (including tools and methods) are developed, implemented, performed, and maintained, achieving the business objectives and increasing customer satisfaction. These quality processes include, but are not limited to, management and resolution of product defect field issues.

The Quality Manager is the interface between the North American Cab and Vehicle Assembly plants and a variety of stakeholders in Operations, Purchasing, Technology and Brands for product quality and product safety & compliance. In this role the Quality Manager must ensure product quality performance within the determined responsibility scope through investigating, prioritizing, and solving product quality issues identified to achieve committed quality and warranty targets.

You are proficient in applying quality tools in manufacturing and preferably from the automotive industry. You are comfortable managing people, that don’t directly report to you from other departments and/or functions, to solve manufacturing and product related quality defects. You are confident negotiating with cross functional stakeholders to prioritize and solve problems and possess a strong business acumen and have strong customer focus.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage the product quality processes by
  • Develop and implement quality processes, tools, methods, and ways of working with manufacturing plants
  • Identify root cause(s) related product defects, caused by manufacturing processes, by conducting a RCA (Root Cause Analysis) applying problem solving methodologies and tools
  • Take corrective actions to contain defects in the manufacturing processes when needed to protect the customer from product defects (ie. support plants on campaigns and product quality field claims information for management)
  • Act as GTO Quality Engineering’s interface and liaison on product quality issues and product safety cases (or recalls) with cross functional stakeholders in manufacturing, engineering, purchasing, aftermarket, brands and safety compliance.
  • Interface with the manufacturing plants’ quality and production departments to solve product quality problems found in the field by customers.
  • Developing associated training among other users
  • Manage all product quality KPI’s and reports to management and stakeholders
  • Drive data collection and analysis of all product quality related defects found by customers in the field for reporting back to stakeholders and management
  • Negotiating and cooperating with a number of stakeholders in the Volvo Group
  • Participate and represent the quality function in various product & safety forums.
  • Providing documentation when needed for the Volvo Group Management System
  • Defining the operational budget, along with manufacturing plants
  • Inspire, develop, and motivate people.

Who are you?

  • You have strong quality experience in manufacturing and preferably a background in engineering and production
  • You have a strong understanding of manufacturing quality preferably in the heavy-duty trucks or automotive industries
  • You can lead problem solving initiatives & projects using project management best practices and tools by applying WBS (work breakdown structure) and monitoring and control of tasks and assignments.
  • You have strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities for effective teamwork and data-driven decision-making
  • You have strong analytical capabilities working with digital/IT tools, databases, and software to identify patterns, root causes, and opportunities for solving problems
  • You have strong presentation skills in communication and preparing presentations for senior management and stakeholders
  • You have strong organizational skills to manage several issues simultaneously with ability to delegate tasks as needed, holding people accountable to meeting deadlines
  • You have a holistic & open mindset and positive attitude towards people & problems

  • What We Are Looking For
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, the Sciences, or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • At least (5) Five years of experience in manufacturing and preferably in automotive and/or heavy-duty industrial manufacturing.
  • Certified in Lean Manufacturing and/or Certified Quality Engineer is preferred
