Description Interventionist/Math Specialist – Middle School
Reports to: Supervisor of Learner Acceleration and Assessment
Position Summary:
The role of an Interventionist/Math Specialist is dedicated to providing high-quality, personalized instruction based on current research and best practices to students with Tier 2 and 3 needs in mathematics, with the goal of accelerating their learning and improving academic outcomes. Instruction is delivered in small groups, one-on-one, or asynchronously. The Interventionist/Math Specialist also serves as a leader and advisor for teachers, assisting them in utilizing data to create small groups, providing guidance on research-based strategies, and ensuring data collection is conducted with fidelity. Additionally, they play a crucial role on the Steps to Success Team to identify students needing extra support. The Interventionist/Math Specialist must possess robust knowledge of data analysis, research-based intervention strategies in math, the Science of Math, customized instruction, the MTSS process, and UDL. They will work closely with learners, families, teachers, Data Coaches, and administrators.
Responsibilities:
  • Work with Supervisors of Learner Acceleration and Assessment, the School Improvement Team, and Data Coaches to model, demonstrate, and guide teachers in using research-based strategies, processes, and protocols to ensure a collaborative teaching environment focused on improving student learning.
  • Using the provided intervention program as a guide, plan, create, and teach small groups or one-on-one sessions based on intervention strategies, best practices, and data to accelerate student learning.
  • Create, develop, and offer flexible interventions, such as asynchronous skills practice, for students who need alternative pathways to learning.
  • Communicate regularly with families about student concerns, interventions offered, and the importance of those interventions.
  • Be a leader on the Steps to Success Team by collecting accurate data, collaborating and communicating with all members, determining next steps, and participating in meetings.
  • Build teacher capacity in creating small group lessons based on evidence-based practices, data-driven instruction, and intervention best practices by providing resources and advice that is focused on informing, modeling, and encouraging.
  • Assist in ensuring all benchmark, diagnostic, and progress monitoring data is implemented with fidelity.
  • Participate in PLCs, professional developments, and other training with the goal of continuous improvement.
  • Assist in building a community of shared accountability for student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the School Improvement Team, Administrators, Data Coaches, Instructional Coaches, and teachers as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other office technology.

Physical Demands
This is largely a sedentary role. Requires the ability to lift, squat, sit, bend or stand as necessary. Ability to travel to other sites/locations as needed.

Required Education and Experience
  • Excellent collaboration and leadership skills
  • In-depth understanding of best practices in reading instruction and supporting learners in need of reading intervention.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret different types of data
  • PA teaching certification(s) that spans all middle grades (6-8) in the area of mathematics. For example, PA Math 4-8 or a combination of Elementary K-6 and a Secondary mathematics certification is acceptable

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Advanced professional learning in mathematics instruction and intervention
  • Background in online learning

  • Valid PA Driver’s License
  • Appropriate Automobile Insurance Coverage
