We are seeking an experienced Safety Engineer for our First Quality Tissue, SE location in Anderson, SC. The Safety Engineer is a member of the site Health and Safety (H&S) Team, and as part of the team, this member would partner with manufacturing operations and maintenance in the pursuit of Operational Excellence in Safety, as well as develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive H&S management system to ensure compliance and manage risk.
Primary responsibilities include:
Serve as an innovative, H&S subject matter expert by partnering in decisions on technical, regulatory, and cultural safety issues related to:
- Driving an action-oriented safety culture which embraces safety as a core value.
- Safety review and approval of new and/or modified equipment and facilities.
- Deployment of safety management systems, including programs, procedures, behavior-based safety and related training.
- Lead/participate in proactive risk assessments and additional controls development and implementation.
- Lead and champion continuous improvement in health and safety.
- Engage with and support the workforce to strengthen two-way communication, trust and confidence.
- Assists in the development and performs instructor-led training sessions and shop floor support of safety training on assigned safety management system programs and company risk control processes.
- Effectively transfer knowledge and ensure skills are developed through effective and efficient communication, training and awareness.
- Monitor and evaluate effectiveness and compliance with requirements.
- Assist with and/or oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action plan development and implementation.
- Manage administrative responsibilities related to health and safety compliance and program administration.
- Assist and/or lead Workers’ Compensation claims administration and coordination of the Return-to-Work program.
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Focus on EH&S, engineering, science, or chemical background, preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in safety within a manufacturing environment, strongly preferred.
- Broad-based knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations applicable to the location.
- Successful creation, implementation, administration, and auditing of health and safety programs and management systems (e.g., OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001).
- Data collection, compilation and statistical analysis related to incident occurrences, industrial hygiene data, and cultural surveys.
- Creating health and safety programs and related training materials; communication of these materials through oral and written communications using various delivery methods to successfully communicate information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
- BCSP Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or ACGIH certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is a plus.
