Job Summary:
As an Architectural Design & Permitting Coordinator, you will be responsible for preparing preliminary building designs, managing permit documentation, and coordinating technical drawings for production using CAD as a CAD Operator. This role requires a detail-oriented, organized individual with experience in architectural drafting, code research, and construction documentation. You’ll collaborate closely with sales, engineering, external consultants, and regulatory authorities to ensure timely and accurate project delivery.
Salary : from $50,000 per year
Key Responsibilities:
Preliminary Design:
- Create residential and commercial floor plans, elevations, electrical layouts, and foundation proposals ( CAD experience, mostly 2D)
- Design cross-sections, stair details, and other architectural elements
- Research materials/products as they relate to design and code compliance
- Revise plans as requested and consolidate quotes into design documents
Permitting:
- Conduct zoning, building code, snow/wind load, and site-specific research
- Coordinate with Sales to collect required documents (e.g., plot plans, Manual J)
- Perform or manage calculations (e.g., electrical load, RESCheck, structural)
- Work with Professional Engineers and outside consultants as needed
- Assemble and revise full permit drawing sets and submit to third-party reviewers
Production Support:
- Finalize all drawing details for framing, plumbing, and electrical
- Apply shop dimensions and verify calcs have been correctly integrated
- Export finalized drawings to individual PDF files for production teams
Additional Duties:
- Maintain and update standard details and block libraries
- Support leadership with special projects or tasks
- Communicate with clients as needed
Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Architecture, Engineering, or related field
- 2+ years experience in architectural drafting or construction documentation
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD (Revit a plus)
- Knowledge of building codes, permitting processes, and construction methods
- Excellent time management and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and handle multiple projects simultaneously
