We are searching for a Coordinator of Community Engagement to join the recently established Office of Community Engagement and Leadership Development. Positioned within the Division of Student Affairs, the office intentionally integrates leadership development opportunities and community engagement efforts to develop community-minded leaders who are actively engaged in creating positive societal change. This is a full-time, fixed-term position from July through mid-November.
In this role you will coordinate and deliver numerous community engagement initiatives that directly contribute to our ambitious goal of ensuring every undergraduate and graduate student has a foundational community engagement experience as part of their Carnegie Mellon education. You will have ownership of and responsibility for high profile events, develop programming in partnership with community organizations, supervise student staff, and support departmental priorities. Additionally, you will have the exciting opportunity to contribute to our ongoing strategic planning work to further invest in student development and learning and community impact.
Core responsibilities include:
Program and Event Management
• Coordinate all aspects of numerous large-scale community engagement traditions including, but not limited to two Days of Service and the Volunteer Fair
• Reenvision the CMU-Community Partners Networking Reception
• Organize and support programming for graduate and first-year orientations
• Develop a slate of educational programming with community partners
• Schedule blood drives for the academic year
• Support democratic engagement efforts including Democracy Day planning
• Develop and deploy the communication strategy including marketing materials for all programs
• Support the launch of the Hope Center Student Basic Needs Survey
Training and Infrastructure Development
• Develop a system for capturing community organization information and opportunities requests
• Conduct recruitment and training efforts for student site leaders, including orientation counselors and resident assistants
• Write training materials for student staff who conduct consultations to connect students with community engagement opportunities
• Build out student advocacy resources on departmental website
• Conduct benchmarking and research projects for strategic initiatives
Student Supervision and Advising
• Supervise student staff including the Day of Service intern
• Oversee work product of student graphic designer and social media interns for community engagement marketing projects
• Advise community engagement student organizations

Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs or related field required
- One year of related experience in a student affairs, training and education, or event planning setting required
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

The Coordinator of Community Engagement is a full-time, fixed-term exempt role that will be benefits eligible. This position will sometimes include evening and weekend hours. The Coordinator role will begin immediately upon hiring through mid-November, 2025. If needed, there may be an opportunity for an extension. Priority consideration given to candidates with CMU familiarity and background.
