Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product.
In this position as a R&D/Product Development Engineer I, the candidate will be responsible for supporting leads engineers with all aspects of design, development and defining testing of new copper cable assemblies. This will include supporting engineering leads with analysis of designs, supporting coordination of sample builds, and supporting verification/qualification testing, if required. This position will require direct communications and interactions with the business office (Product Management), manufacturing engineering, and quality engineering. Some domestic and/or international travel might be required as the candidate develops.

This position will be located at our facility in Middletown, PA and is eligible for hybrid work mode (50/50).


R&D/Product Development Engineer I responsibilities may also include:

  • Collaborate across different time zones with global product engineering teams, manufacturing resources, and quality resources to deliver cable assembly solutions meeting technical, quality, cost, and delivery goals.
  • Support planning, sourcing, manufacturing engineers, and quality engineers to ensure timely introduction of new and sustaining cable assembly products to the production floor.
  • Support project management engineers (PjM) to assure product engineering commitments are met for new product development projects.
  • Support product sustaining activities like the engineering change process (-115/ECR/ECN) by interacting with various functional teams to ensure engineering change is clearly understood and properly executed.
  • Support lead engineers during product quote phase which includes verifying manufacturability to the customer specifications, generating both quote drawings and quote bill of materials and identifying opportunities to design in TE Connectivity’s value-added products.
  • Provide engineering support in identifying VAVE/TEBIT cost savings opportunities for new and sustaining products.
  • Participate in corporate initiatives like continuous improvement projects, product compliance and EBOMs.
  • Draft component and finished good production drawings using 2D/3D CAD software.

What your background should look like:

  • Must be US citizen certified to work with ITAR sensitive products.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • New college grad. Planned graduation at the end of 2025 will be considered.
  • Have previous internship or large project experience (Capstone Project as an example).
  • Must be accountable and own it.
  • Should be self-motivated, adaptive, passionate about results and a good team player.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-organized with the tasks assigned.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (oral and written).
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Experience using CAD software like AutoCAD, preferred or Creo/Solidworks, a plus.
  • Experience using Microsoft office.

  • COMPENSATION
  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $70,200 - $105,400 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
  • Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
