SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Hybrid, onsite training and 1 day in the office per week

The Financial Application Associate supports the hospital financial assistance program operations with receiving, validating and processing incoming patient applications for financial assistance, including supporting financial statements and required documentation. The Associate is responsible for ensuring that all financial assistance adjustments are posted to patient accounts on a timely basis which supports both the patients and the Revenue Cycle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Medical health insurance knowledge
Medical terminology
Revenue Cycle experience
HS Diploma or higher

Customer service experience (six months previous experience is required)

The Financial Application Associate tasks support the revenue cycle stream for each patient service provided. Accurate processing of financial assistance applications is an essential component to meet the requirements of 501r, benefit the community and is required to maintain PSHMC’s status as a non-profit organization under 501(c)(3).

Complexities of this position include:

· Possess critical thinking skills and ability to analyze data needed to complete the financial assistance process

· In-depth understanding of the legalities of healthcare including but not limited to understanding debt collection trade practices, the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Act 6 and Act 44.

· Possess excellent working knowledge and understanding of policies, system capabilities and department resources.

· Ability to maintain a calm, compassionate demeanor when assisting frustrated, angry or upset patients.

· Possess excellent written and verbal communication.

· Partner with Revenue Integrity and PFS staff to work patient follow-up accounts.

· Account collection and resolution.

Failure to correctly identify these components leads to the following down-stream adverse impacts:

· Failure to comply with the 501r Federal regulation can result in the loss of the non-profit status under 501(c)(3) for PSHMC.

· Failure to process financial assistance applications or respond to patient inquires in a timely manner can result in lost revenue for the Institution (in hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars.)

· Failure to process financial assistance applications or respond to patient inquires in a timely manner can result in a negative patient financial experience as well as a potential loss of revenue.

    · HIPAA breach via release of PHI to unauthorized party.
