Basic Function
The Office of Public Engagement (OPE) serves as the prevention arm of the Office of Attorney General (OAG) through education and outreach. OPE offers core curriculum and diversified educational programming to raise awareness of issues that directly intersect with the OAG’s mission and jurisdiction. Core programming serves all grades of school students, administrators, and parents; senior citizens; legislative constituencies; and the general public with the goal of empowering Pennsylvania citizens by equipping them with knowledge and information to prevent harm.
This position predominantly consists of educating the public on services provided by the OAG; dangers in the community such as scams, fraud, online safety, and cyber bullying; and other information gathered by the various divisions within the OAG. An employee in this position must travel to public organizations, governmental agencies, schools, senior citizen groups, and other locations.
- Acts as an ambassador to public organizations, governmental agencies, schools, senior citizens, and other groups
- Responsible for planning and executing events to educate the public on a specific subject of interest as directed by the Executive staff and sponsored by the OAG
- Collaborates with personnel across the office to enhance the presentations and more effectively educate the audience on a specific topic
- Prepares for appearances by the Attorney General by compiling information regarding venue, audience, and topics of discussion
- Must be prepared in advance to handle any unexpected events that may occur during an unscripted event with the Attorney General
- Travels throughout the Commonwealth for events
- Represents the OAG with a professional demeanor and appearance at all times
- Works with a team to collect and collate information, communicates with other units in a timely manner, and communicates effectively with the public in an appropriate manner
- Works on special projects that are assigned by members of the Executive staff
- A Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience which affords the employee the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the work required of the position OR
- Four years of experience which affords the employee the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the work required of the position OR
- Any equivalent combination of applicable education, experience, and training
