Salary Range: DAG I: Pay Range 8 – Starting salary of $61,810
DAG II: Pay Range 9 – Starting salary of $70,709
DAG III: Pay Range 10 – Starting salary of $80,822
Basic Function
An employee in this position provides varied legal services and advice on matters of moderate or significant scope and complexity. Work involves the practice of administrative and transactional law and will require regular interaction with all Commonwealth agencies. The employee will also assist more senior attorneys on matters deemed to be more complex and difficult. This position does not include the regular practice of litigation.
As a candidate hired at level I or II gains experience, work is performed with more independence. A DAG III will work independently on most matters.
- Examines and analyzes the legal sufficiency and form of Commonwealth contracts, leases, and bonds
- Examines and analyzes the legal sufficiency and form of Commonwealth regulations
- Assists with the collection, review, and redaction of agency records in response to Right-to-Know Law requests; may also assist with the drafting of RTKL responses and appeals on an as needed basis
- Conducts legal research in support of official Attorney General legal opinions
- Prepares the initial draft of an official Attorney General legal opinion
- Assists with legal research on a variety of topics important to the Office of Attorney General
- Prepares the initial draft of legal memoranda
- Answers routine correspondence
- Performs related work as required
Deputy Attorney General I:
- Graduation from an accredited school of law and admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania
Deputy Attorney General II:
- Graduation from an accredited school of law, admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work
- Two to six years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work preferred
Deputy Attorney General III:
- Graduation from an accredited school of law, admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work
- Four to nine years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work preferred
- General knowledge of administrative, contractual, and/or regulatory law preferred
