Description Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 9-0 has an opening for a Transportation Construction Inspector in the Materials Unit.  This individual performs technical work in monitoring the quality of materials through testing and inspection and ensure material suppliers are operating as approved and that they are following their quality control plans.

This position is home headquartered in Blair County, but employee may work in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon or Somerset County.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Schedule is subject to change to do contractor/vendor work schedule requirements.  Travel and overtime will be required.

  • Meet Pennsylvania residency requirements.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.
Perform materials testing in accordance with the specifications and the applicable testing procedures.  Perform materials acceptance reviews for construction projects.  Report all material deviations to immediate supervisor and take appropriate action to correct material deviations.

Perform District quality assurance reviews for aggregate, bituminous, and concrete suppliers to evaluate compliance with supplier Quality Control plans.
 
Review all ECAMMS reports related to plant assignments.  Witness plant and test equipment scale calibration.  Perform yearly plant approvals.  Witness bituminous and concrete mix designs.

Perform supplier technician evaluations for continued certification. Monitor truck weight verification and control.

Document work performed and plant activities on a daily basis during plant inspection in Form CS-4346 (Plant Master Diary), as per the Project Office Manual.
 
Sample and submit qualification and requalification samples at aggregate sources.
 
Collect samples and complete TR-447 sample IDs for sample submission to the Laboratory Testing Section (LTS).  Perform ECAMMS entry as needed.  Assist, as needed, in District-wide sample collection.
