The position supports the organization's mission of protecting the public health by coordinating healthcare acquired infection prevention and control outreach and education programs across the Commonwealth with the supervision of Bureau of Epidemiology leadership. Provides information to healthcare providers and healthcare administrators in inpatient and outpatient settings to implement effective infection prevention and control programs to maximize patient safety. 

This position includes writing, implementing and evaluating grant activities related to HAI prevention and antimicrobial stewardship training and communication. Document grant activities for accountability and reporting purposes. Works with Departmental staff to contract for or implement training events and symposia across the state. Coordinates with Bureau staff to keep track of and document grant deliverables, measures, current progress, timelines and reporting requirements. Identifies funding opportunities and coordinates with Bureau staff to capitalize on funding opportunities.

Coordinates outreach and information programs with executive staff, Communications Office in the Pennsylvania Department of Health, departmental community health staff and stakeholders in community groups and health systems. Organizes, coordinates and assists in presentations and symposia for training and execution of large statewide public health campaigns to prevent HAIs and promote antimicrobial stewardship. Tailor education and presentation materials for the target audience; use plain-language principles when appropriate.

Uses outcomes data to assess program results and make recommendations for program improvement. Tracks progress on HAI, infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship projects, including facility-level process and outcome measures.


Participate in regional and national working groups (e.g., CSTE HAI working group) to prevent HAIs and promote antimicrobial stewardship. Provides coordination for working groups, meetings, seminars and other activities of the HAI group as needed.

This position may be given an assignment to support the public health emergency response mission of the Department of Health. Emergency assignments could at times be received with little or no advance notice, and may continue for any period of time – ranging from a few hours to several weeks, depending upon the nature of the circumstance. The emergency assignments may at times be performed under adverse conditions and may require travel to another site other than the employee's assigned headquarters for periods of time.

 Qualifications:
  • PA residency currently waived for this title
  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements -   A  bachelor's degree and one year of professional  public health, health, allied health sciences, drug and alcohol or related experience; OR A bachelor's degree and one year of professional experience in the development or evaluation of grants, contracts or programs for the provision of social, employment, environmental health, or health related services; OR An associate's degree in allied health sciences or nursing and three years of professional experience in the development or evaluation of grants, contracts or programs for the provision of social, employment, environmental health, or health related services; OR Five years of professional experience in the development or evaluation of grants, contracts or programs for the provision of social, employment, environmental health, or health related services; OR A master's degree in public health, health services administration, health care administration, health education, public health administration, public administration, nursing, epidemiology, social work, nutrition, hospital administration, physical therapy, occupational therapy, business administration, or education.
