These positions are located at Gettysburg National Military Park in the Maintenance Division, Landscape Preservation Branch.

Temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours in a service year may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is
APRIL THROUGH SEPTEMBER,
but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.

2 or more seasonal temporary positions in the Adopt a Position Program in the Landscape Preservation Branch
of the Maintenance division. The work schedule of these positions will be a varied schedule throughout the week to include weekends working 8 hour days.

4 or more seasonal temporary positions in the Landscape Preservation Branch
of the Maintenance division. The work schedule of these positions will be M-F, 8 hour days.
This position performs the following tasks encountered in the operations of the Maintenance Division:
-Rakes, sweeps, mows, and trims landscaped grounds using walking or riding power equipment up to and including 18 HP riding type and walk behind mowers, equipped with 42-inch mower decks and bagger attachments;
-Operates trucks up to 1 ton capacity equipped with four-wheel drive;
-Collects trash and litter from receptacles at buildings and roadside areas and on park grounds;
-Leaf removal using hand tools and power brooms;
-Performs routine grounds maintenance including, but not limited to raking roadsides and ditches, patching holes in paving, repairing stone lanes and trails, removing hazardous trees, clearing vista, and removing vegetation;
-Applies approved chemicals for the control of unwanted vegetation;
-Performs fence construction and repairs both historic and non-historic fences;
-Performs routine maintenance and repair of all equipment in scope of operations;
-Cares for plants and shrubs including weeding, mulching, watering, and plant food application;
-Minor painting and masonry duties when needed

In order to qualify for a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-05, you must possess the following requirements:
Possess knowledge and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform work as a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-05 without more than normal supervision. Experience is defined as: 1) duties relevant to the maintenance of roads, trails, grounds and cultural resources (i.e. cannons, monuments, etc); 2)operation of landscape equipment, trucks and trailers, tractors; 3)trail maintenance; 4)fence repair and construction; 5)tree removal; 6)and small construction projects.
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
ABILITY TO PERFORM THE WORK OF A MAINTENANCE WORKER (MVO), WG-4749-05 WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION.(SCREEN OUT)
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
Use of measuring instruments
Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading)
Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
Knowledge of Materials

WAGE GRADE INFORMATION:
OPM Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations (as specified in the Office of Personnel Management Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations), will be used in determining an applicant's qualifications.
There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, the applicant must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials that they possess the skill level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision.
