Description The Department of State's Bureau of Enforcement and Investigation is seeking a highly dedicated person to uphold the standards of various business professions.  The Regulatory Enforcement Inspector ensures a high standard of regulated business by performing detailed inspections throughout the region.

  • Work Hours:  8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday; 1 hour lunch
  • Must be willing to travel.  Travel expenses are paid.
This is a highly rewarding position that ensures public health and safety through field inspection work to determine compliance with laws, rules, and regulations regarding professional and occupational licensing and other areas under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of the Commonwealth.  The primary focus of the position is the physical inspection of barber shops, cosmetology salons, real estate offices, and vehicle dealerships. 

Inspectors issue citations when appropriate violations are found.  Inspectors also provide limited investigative support activities.

This position travels to various sites in a geographic area of the state to conduct periodic inspections of all affected professions and occupations, by observation and interviews, noting any deviation from established standards, and preparing reports to communicate findings.Qualifications:

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements - three years of experience involving interpersonal public contact and inspecting for compliance with rules and regulations and reporting related facts; OR an Associate's Degree and one year of experience involving interpersonal public contact and inspecting for compliance with rules and regulations and reporting related facts; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training which included one year of experience involving interpersonal public contact and inspecting for compliance with rules and regulations and reporting related facts.

In addition, if asked to provide transcripts for specific coursework, e.g., 12 credits in social science, you may upload a list of completed courses you believe are qualifying in place of the transcripts. The list must include the name of the school(s), course titles completed with a passing grade, and number of credits for each course. Once you receive a copy of your transcripts, you may send the document(s) and the specific job title and job number to which you applied to ra-cs-documents@pa.gov.
