Work Hours are 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday with a 30 minute lunch
This is an Environmental Engineer Specialist position in the Department of Environmental Protection, Environmental Cleanup and Brownfield Program and Facilities Section of the Waste Management Program. The employee in this class is responsible for providing scientific assistance as an engineering expert to associates by independently analyzing and resolving engineering situations, including unique technical pollution problems; reviewing and analyzing technical engineering information associated with the two programs activities delegated to the regional Environmental Cleanup and Brownfield Program and the Waste Management Program.
The employee in this position performs a variety of duties in the Hazardous Site Cleanup Program involving the investigation and cleanup of hazardous sites to ensure compliance with federal and state rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the identification, investigation and cleanup of hazardous sites under the Federal superfund and State Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act. The employee reviews general as well as detailed technical engineering aspects of soil and groundwater cleanups, including water and air discharges from those cleanups and other related activities.
The Facilities Section is responsible for reviewing permit applications for Municipal, Residual and Hazardous Waste Management. Typical projects include landfills, transfer facilities, waste processing facilities, oil and gas residual waste storage and processing facilities, hazardous waste storage or treatment facilities, and hazardous waste recycling facilities.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
- Successful completion of the training program for Environmental Engineering Trainee;
one year of professional experience in environmental engineering, and a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or in any engineering field that includes or is supplemented by 9 credits in environmental engineering;
two years of professional experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists;
one year of professional experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. Graduate study in environmental engineering or in a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Position requires possession of a valid driver's license.
