Forest Technician (9-Month Limited Term)

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is looking to hire a 9-month limited term Forest Technician to work in their Northwest Region.

Temporary full-time employment.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM; 30 minute lunch.
Overnight travel may be required.
Survey and mark the boundaries of timber sales, herbicide areas, and other forest habitat treatments following instructions and directions provided by the forester.
Examine trees, mark timber, and conduct volume computations according to a prescription developed by the forester.
Assist foresters in the collection of field data for stand analysis, sale layout, etc.
Enter data collected by foresters into appropriate computer programs.
Collect and compile GPS data for management activities and produce appropriate maps for the approval of the forester.
Conduct State Game Lands stand examinations and compile information for use in decision making by a forester.
Conduct surveys and prepare forest habitat type maps for use by foresters.
Assist foresters in the application of herbicides for forest habitat management and maintenance.
Maintain tools and equipment used in forest habitat management activities.
Assist with other Bureau of Wildlife Habitat, Forestry Division and Pennsylvania Game Commission programs as needed and assigned on a temporary basis.
Perform other job related duties as required by their supervisor.
1. Effectively communicates orally and in writing.
2. Collects forest data and prepares appropriate reports.
3. Works entire shift outdoors in uneven and rough terrain in all weather conditions.
4. Traverses rough, uneven forested terrain carrying up to 40 lbs.
5. Operates 4-wheel drive pickup trucks or SUVs.
6. Performs identification of trees, shrubs, vines and other forest vegetation.
7. Utilizes compass, GPS, and other related equipment to identify ground features and relate
them to maps.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements -
An associate's degree in forest technology;
completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
Condition of Employment -
position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
