Description The Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia is recruiting for a full-time (40 hr per week) staff surgeon with Board Certification in both General Surgery and Vascular Surgery, and demonstrated expertise in the performance of endovascular procedures. The selected applicant will provide on-site inpatient care at our VA Medical Center campus and will be required to travel to affiliated VA facilities.

The Corporal Michael J. Crescenz Veterans Administration Medical Center located in Philadelphia is recruiting for a full-time (40 hours per week) Vascular Surgeon. The successful applicant will also spend a portion of time at the affiliated VA Facility in Wilmington. The applicant must have demonstrated excellence in clinical care, research, and education in the field of Vascular Surgery. In order to support Graduate Medical Education, applicants must be competitive for a faculty appointment in the Division of Vascular Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania.

The applicant must hold or be eligible for Board Certification in Vascular Surgery and have demonstrated expertise in the performance of complex open and endovascular procedures, outpatient care, inpatient care and medical and combined modality management of patients with vascular disease. The incumbent will be required to take call as a member of the Vascular Surgery team, which may include on-site duty during weekends and holidays. Teamwork and collaboration skills are essential.

The Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VAMC has a comprehensive non-invasive vascular lab, and a hybrid room within the main OR which is currently under construction. The Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VAMC is an academic partner of the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Critical roles of the position are resident supervision and clinical instruction in the operating room, outpatient clinic and inpatient settings, along with medical student education.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated a track record of excellence in clinical care, research, and education in the field of vascular surgery. In order to support Graduate Medical. Education, applicants must be competitive for faculty appointment in the Division of Vascular Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

The incumbent will be required to call on a recurring basis as· a member of the Vascular Surgery team. This activity will include on site duty during weekends and holidays. Teamwork and collaboration skills are essential to the performance of this duty. Therefore, these characteristics will be important factors in the evaluation of candidates.

Additionally, this position is part of the Eastern Market Surgical Care Line, the surgeon will be required to travel to Wilmington VAMC.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board certification highly preferred.
