The newly unified UEIS division at Carnegie Mellon University includes University Libraries and Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation; The Entertainment Technology Center, the Integrated Design, Arts and Technology program; and university sustainability initiatives. As the division grows, we are searching for a Data Analyst to join the team.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean, this position will provide software development, data analysis, data reporting, and data visualization support for four academic programs and service units, and the Research Information Management Services program office. Working closely with a financial analyst, the successful candidate will help develop financial reporting structures to be used in university forecasting and budget decisions. Reporting, including IPEDS and analyses feeding into externally facing annual reports, will be a regular expectation.
In addition, a significant focus for this position will be working closely with the Research Information Management System (RIMS) team on the collection and presentation of data related to the academic outputs of faculty and research staff across CMU’s campus. The data these systems house include scholarly publication records, grants records, research equipment records, teaching activities, committee service work, and other professional activities.
Core responsibilities include:
- Inventorying and harvesting data produced across the UEIS division.
- Assisting with annual IPEDS and activity reporting.
- Writing, documenting, and maintaining data processing scripts and software tools.
- Writing data queries used to build reports and data visualizations.
- Participating in requirements gathering, software design meetings, and client consultations with customers across campus.
- Maintaining version control repositories for multiple software projects.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information Systems, Data Analytics, or another closely related field.
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience required.
- Minimum of 1 year of professional experience with Tableau.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience writing SQL queries.
- Minimum of 1 year of Experience coding in Python.
- Experience querying RESTful APIs.
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
